Jan Lindsay, QC

Partner - Langley Offices

Jan Lindsay, a lawyer in Lindsay Kenney LLP’s Langley BC office, was called to the BC bar in 1981, and joined the firm as its first associate shortly after. An LK Law partner since 1989, Jan focuses on civil litigation with an emphasis on insurance matters. She is also well known as a personal injury lawyer in Langley. Jan was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2009.

When LK Law opened its Langley office in 1991, Ms Lindsay moved her practice there, concentrating on defence of personal injury claims and motor vehicle accidents, including coverage and liability issues and disputes. Jan has handled hundreds of claims and files, and conducted tens of jury and judge-alone trials and appeals for insurers and their insureds, on a number of issues including mild traumatic brain injury law in Langley, spinal cord injury, orthopaedic injuries, soft tissue injuries and economic loss.

Born in Vancouver, Jan obtained a Bachelor of Laws in 1980 at the University of British Columbia and was admitted to the British Columbia Bar in 1981.

Highly involved in Law Society activities, Ms Lindsay was elected as Second Vice-President of the Law Society of BC in 2011; named to the Executive Committee in 2010, sat on the Complainants Review Committee from 2000 to 2003 and the Discipline Committee in 2005, among many committee roles. Since 2006, Jan is currently one of three Benchers representing Westminster County. As a Bencher–and as a longtime lawyer in Langley–she supports and reports to the New Westminster Bar Association, the Fraser Valley Bar Association, and the Abbotsford and District Bar Association meetings. Also as a Bencher, Jan presents ethics courses for the Canadian Bar Association Ethics, and often addresses first year law students on professional ethics and character. In 2011, Jan Lindsay became the tenth recipient of the prestigious Lee Samis Award of Excellence. Named for the first President of Canadian Defence Lawyers, this award recognizes exceptional contributions and/or achievements by members of CDL. Also in 2011, Jan Lindsay has been honoured with the inclusion of her name in the Best Lawyers in Canada publication for her work in Personal Injury Litigation.

Ms Lindsay has also been co-chair of the Continuing Legal Education Personal Injury Conference for several years and participated in other CLE programs, as well as a member and former chair of the Canadian Bar Association’s Automobile Insurance Committee.

Jan managed to balance a full-time career as a Langley lawyer with raising four children-attending “too many hockey and soccer games to count”-while also volunteering in a range of community initiatives. Her current community interest is with the Langley Children’s Society.
