Carmen Place

Partner - Vancouver Offices

Carmen Place is a senior partner at Lindsay Kenney LLP and a lawyer in our Vancouver office. Mr. Place’s primary practice area is insurance, specializing in insurance defence. His clients include general liability insurers, property insurers, insurance brokers, insurance adjusters and a variety of companies through their risk management departments.

Carmen’s focus on general insurance litigation includes first-party claims such as coverage disputes; fraudulent, exaggerated or misrepresentation claims; arson; business interruption; property damage; bad faith claims; and subrogation. He also acts as defence counsel on third-party claims involving personal injury, occupier’s liability, motor vehicle accident, municipal liability, defamation, directors’ and officers’ liability, environmental claims, products liability, entertainment and sports liability, and host liquor liability.

Carmen was born in Williams Lake, British Columbia. He obtained a Bachelor of Commerce in 1982 and a Bachelor of Laws in 1983, both from the University of British Columbia. He was admitted to the British Columbia Bar in 1984, and has become well known as a Vancouver lawyer in the field of insurance law. Carmen currently holds the position of Vice President of the Risk Management Counsel of Canada. Mr. Place has also been very active in the defence bar as a founding member of the British Columbia Association of Insurance Defence Counsel and most recently as the President of the Canadian Defence Lawyers (2006-2007), a national association of over 1000 members.
